2012年伦敦奥运会开闭幕式总导演比尔-莫里斯说，北京奥运会开幕式气势磅礴，他想用另外的方式展示伦敦，“希望伦敦8分钟对于北京的开幕式是一种完整而不是竞争。我希望它能够简单，并不传达太多的信息，有趣，实在。包含体育和文化元素。”
